Aquaponics and Earthships

Wow, has anyone else looked into these Earthships that Michael Reynolds is building down in New Mexico?  Totally awesome building style!  These buildings are as self sustaining as a building can be.  They produce their own power supply, collect their own water, are made from natural and repurposed materials, heat and cool themselves with thermal mass, process their own sewage and most important to me ... they grow plenty of great food right in the building!
The water in these buildings is filtered several times before it is used and then it gets filtered through the garden beds (botanical areas) before it's final use a toilet water.  From there it ends up in outdoor grow beds which are not for direct human consumption.
It seems to me that adding an Aquaponic garden to that would be an amazing idea.  It would need to be in it's own closed loop but it could still be topped up with the filtered rainwater and any excess could be run through the other garden areas before running through the toilet tank.  I would like to build one of these Earthships that is designed purely for greenhouse use and see just how well that works out.  Imagine not having to worry about the price of electricity or the cost of heating to grow your food all year around, fantastic!
If you're interested, you can learn more about Earthship buildings and Michael Reynolds on Youtube easy enough, or if you like you can check you the movie they made about it called 'The Garbage Warrior.'  There's a copy of it on the Earthship channel page I believe ...
If you have any experience with these buildings (live in one, visited one, built one somewhere, watched the movie already ...) feel free to post your thoughts on the matter!  Happy gardening to all!  Blessed Be!

Some of my Vid's

I just figured I should post a few links to some of my aquaponic clips so you can see what I'm working with or talking about.

This first one is from a few months ago and it's a quick introduction to my greenhouse aquaponics system.  Aquaponics - Taking a Look at my Greenhouse System is one of my first uploaded clips and I'm still learning more about this stuff everyday.

In Aquaponics - Of Pebbles and Pellets I take a moment to look at the differences between these two very popular growing mediums.  Why not take a look and let me know which one you would use?

The Aquaponics - Plumbing video is a quick look at the simple plumbing that I use in my greenhouse aquaponics garden.  A small 400 gallon per hour pump is enough to get both beds up and running fine and it only draws 25 watts so I could put it off-grid without too much effort!

Finally, well for now anyway, if you just want to take a look at some hard workin' feeder fish you might enjoy either the Dayfeeding or Nightfeeding videos.

Thanks for stopping by my little blog!  Feel free to comment!
